लिखन्त्येव तु केषांचिदपरेषां शनैरपि । इति ये संवदन्त्यत्र त एतं॑ निश्चयं विदु:,'किन्हींके मतमें अक्षतयोनि कन्‍्याको स्वीकार करनेका अधिकार है। दूसरोंके मतमें यह मन्दप्रवृत्ति--अवैध कार्य है। इस प्रकार जो विवाद करते हैं, वे अन्तमें इसी निश्चयपर पहुँचते हैं कि कन्याका पाणिग्रहण होनेसे पहलेका वैवाहिक मंगलाचार और मन्त्रप्रयोग हो जानेपर भी जहाँ अन्तर या व्यवधान पड़ जाय; अर्थात्‌ अयोग्य वरको छोड़कर किसी दूसरे योग्य वरके साथ कन्या ब्याह दी जाय तो दाताको केवल मिथ्याभाषणका पाप लगता है (पाणिग्रहणसे पूर्व कन्या विवाहित नहीं मानी जाती है)

likhanty eva tu keṣāṃcid apareṣāṃ śanair api | iti ye saṃvadanty atra te etam niścayaṃ viduḥ ||

భీష్ముడు చెప్పెను—కొందరు దీనిని వెంటనే లిఖితంగా స్థిరపరచుదురు; మరికొందరు మెల్లమెల్లగా (పరంపరగా) అంగీకరించుదురు. ఇక్కడ ఈ విషయమై వాదించువారు చివరకు ఈ నిర్ణయానికే చేరుదురు।
