Educational Q&A

A ruler’s dharma includes honoring the populace and acting according to nyāya (lawful propriety). Even in transitional moments, authority is exercised through respect, orderly procedure, and permission—restoring stability without arrogance or force.

After returning to the capital region (contextually Hastināpura), Yudhiṣṭhira respectfully acknowledges the city and countryside people who have gathered, and then formally dismisses them to go back to their homes, preparing the way for the next actions connected with Bhīṣma’s final rites and counsel.
