Viṣṇu-sahasranāma—Yudhiṣṭhira’s Inquiry and Bhīṣma’s Recitation (विष्णोर्नामसहस्रम्)
मनुष्यका किया हुआ कोई भी पुण्य तथा पाप भोगके बिना नष्ट नहीं होता। पर्वकालमें जो कुछ भी दान किया जाता है, वह सब सूर्यदेवके पास पहुँचता है ।।
preta-lokaṁ gate martye tat tat sarvaṁ vibhāvasuḥ | pratijānāti puṇyātmā tac ca tatropayujyate ||
యముడు పలికెను—మనిషి చేసిన పుణ్యమో పాపమో అనుభవించకుండా నశించదు. పర్వకాలంలో ఇచ్చిన దానమంతా సూర్యదేవుని వద్దకు చేరుతుంది. మానవుడు ప్రేతలోకానికి వెళ్లినప్పుడు విభావసు సూర్యదేవుడు వాటన్నిటిని అక్కడ అంగీకరించి అందజేస్తాడు; పుణ్యాత్ముడు పరలోకంలో వాటిని అనుభవిస్తాడు.
