Educational Q&A

Ritual worship and festive observances bear fruit only when supported by ethical domestic life; a home tainted by wrongdoing and disorder causes even gods and ancestors to withdraw, refusing the offerings.

In Bhishma’s instruction on dharma, he explains that on festivals and sacred parvan-days, divine beings and ancestors approach for worship, but they turn back disappointed from a household afflicted by sin, indicating the failure of rites performed in an unrighteous setting.
