गुणांस्तु शृूणु मे राजन्‌ सान्त्वस्य भरतर्षभ । दारुणान्यपि भूतानि सान्त्वेनाराधयेद्‌ यथा,राजन! भरतश्रेष्ठ] अब तुम सामके गुणोंको सुनो। सामके द्वारा मनुष्य भयानक-से- भयानक प्राणीको वशमें कर सकता है

guṇāṁs tu śṛṇu me rājan sāntvasya bharatarṣabha | dāruṇāny api bhūtāni sāntvenārādhayed yathā ||

భీష్ముడు అన్నాడు— ఓ రాజా, భరతవృషభా! ఇప్పుడు సామ (సాంత్వం) యొక్క గుణాలను నా నుండి విను. సామ ద్వారా మనిషి అత్యంత భయంకరమైన ప్రాణులనైనా వశపరచగలడు.
