Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: On the Superiority of Giving
Maitreya–Vyāsa Exemplum
शुभानां नाभिजानामि कृतानां कर्मणां फलम् | माता च पूजिता वृद्धा ब्राह्मणश्वार्चितो मया
śubhānāṃ nābhijānāmi kṛtānāṃ karmaṇāṃ phalam | mātā ca pūjitā vṛddhā brāhmaṇaś cārcito mayā ||
నేను చేసిన శుభకర్మల ఫలాన్ని నేను ప్రత్యక్షంగా అనుభవించలేదు. అయితే నేను నా వృద్ధ మాతను పూజించి సేవించాను; అలాగే ఒకసారి ఇంటికి వచ్చిన బ్రాహ్మణ అతిథిని విధివిధానంగా సత్కరించాను. ఓ బ్రాహ్మణా! ఆ పుణ్య ప్రభావం వల్లనే నేటికీ నా పూర్వజన్మ స్మృతి నన్ను విడిచిపెట్టలేదు।
