तदुत्सृष्टमभिप्रेक्ष्य तस्य पर्णमनुत्तमम् । हृष्टानि सर्वभूतानि नाम चक्रुर्गरुत्मत:,उस गिरे हुए परम उत्तम पंखको देखकर सब प्राणियोंको बड़ा हर्ष हुआ और उसीके आधारपर उन्होंने गरुडका नामकरण किया
tad utsṛṣṭam abhiprekṣya tasya parṇam anuttamam | hṛṣṭāni sarvabhūtāni nāma cakrur garutmataḥ ||
అతడు వదిలిన ఆ అత్యుత్తమ పింఛాన్ని చూసి సమస్త ప్రాణులు ఆనందంతో ఉల్లసించారు; ఆ కార్యాన్నే ఆధారంగా చేసుకొని అతనికి ‘గరుత్మాన్’ అనే నామం పెట్టారు.
