आदि पर्व — खाण्डवदाह प्रसङ्गः: पावकस्य याचनं तथा इन्द्रवर्षनिवारणोपायः
Adi Parva — Khāṇḍava episode: Agni’s request and the means to resist Indra’s rain
आदित्य इव त॑ देशं कृत्स्नं सर्व व्यकाशयत् । तस्य दृष्ट्वा तपस्तादूग् रूप॑ चाद्धुतमुत्तमम्
āditya iva taṁ deśaṁ kṛtsnaṁ sarvaṁ vyakāśayat | tasya dṛṣṭvā tapastādṛg rūpaṁ cādbhutam uttamam ||
వైశంపాయనుడు పలికెను—ఆదిత్యునివలె అతడు ఆ దేశమంతటిని అన్ని దిశలలో ప్రకాశింపజేసెను. అతనిని చూచి—అంత స్పష్టంగా కనిపించే తపస్సు, అలాగే ఆశ్చర్యకరమైన, పరమోత్తమమైన రూపం—(చూసినవారు విస్మయమొందిరి).
