Educational Q&A

The verse frames a moral contrast: immense strength (mahāvīrya) is not inherently virtuous; when paired with a cruel disposition (krūramānasau), it becomes a force of adharma. The epic often uses such introductions to warn that power without restraint and right intention threatens social and cosmic order.

Nārada introduces two formidable Daitya brothers, Sunda and Upasunda, emphasizing their extraordinary prowess and their cruel nature. This functions as a narrative setup for the troubles their tyranny will cause and for the ensuing events that address their menace.
