Arjuna Restores a Brāhmaṇa’s Cattle and Accepts Forest Exile

Satya-vrata at Khaṇḍavaprastha

na tathā rājyasamprāptis teṣāṃ prītikarī matā | yathā sambandhakaṃ prāpya yajñasena tvayā saha ||

Educational Q&A

Worldly power (rājya) is not always the highest source of happiness; ethically grounded relationships and alliances (sambandha) can be more fulfilling and more conducive to dharma and social harmony.

Vidura remarks that the parties in question felt less joy at gaining royal power than at securing a relationship with Yajñasena (Drupada), highlighting the political and moral value of kinship ties over mere territorial gain.
