Adhyāya 196: Droṇa’s Conciliatory Counsel and Karṇa’s Suspicion of Counsel (मन्त्र-नय-विवादः)

तां देवदेव: प्रीतात्मा पुनः प्राह शुभं वचः । पञ्चकृत्वस्त्वयोक्तो5हं पतिं देहीति वै पुनः:,तब देवाधिदेव महादेवजीने मन-ही-मन अत्यन्त संतुष्ट होकर उससे यह शुभ वचन कहा--'भद्रे! तुमने 'पति दीजिये” इस वाक्यको पाँच बार दुहराया है; इसलिये मैंने जो पहले कहा है, वैसा ही होगा, तुम्हारा कल्याण हो। किंतु तुम्हें दूसरे शरीरमें प्रवेश करनेपर यह सब होगा”

tāṃ devadevaḥ prītātmā punaḥ prāha śubhaṃ vacaḥ | pañcakṛtvas tvayokto 'haṃ patiṃ dehīti vai punaḥ ||

దేవదేవుడు మహాదేవుడు ప్రసన్నహృదయుడై మళ్లీ శుభవచనములు పలికెను— “భద్రే! ‘భర్తను ప్రసాదించండి’ అని నీవు ఐదుసార్లు పునరుక్తి చేసితివి. అందుచేత నేను ముందుగా చెప్పినదే నీకు నిశ్చయంగా జరుగును—నీకు మంగళం కలుగుగాక. అయితే ఇది అంతా నీవు మరొక దేహంలో ప్రవేశించినప్పుడు మాత్రమే నెరవేరును.”
