This line functions as a colophon rather than a teaching verse: it frames the preceding narrative as an episode of 'testing' (parīkṣā), implicitly highlighting the Mahābhārata’s ethical concern with examining character—especially dharmic steadiness—before major life transitions such as marriage and kingship.
The text is marking the end of a chapter: it identifies the larger book (Ādi Parva), the sub-section (Vaivāhika Parva), and the episode theme (the testing of Yudhiṣṭhira and the other brothers), and then states that this is the 193rd chapter.
