पाण्डोः श्राद्धं, सत्यवत्याः वनगमनम्, बाल्यस्पर्धा च

न शय्यासनभोगेषु रतिं विन्दति कहिचित्‌ | भ्रातृशोकसमाविष्टस्तमेवार्थ विचिन्तयन्‌,शय्या, आसन और नाना प्रकारके भोगोंमें कभी उनकी रुचि नहीं होती थी। वे भाईके शोकमें मग्न हो सदा उन्हींकी बात सोचते रहते थे

na śayyāsanabhogeṣu ratiṃ vindati kaścit | bhrātṛśokasamāviṣṭas tam evārthaṃ vicintayan |

సోదరశోకంలో మునిగిపోయిన అతడు శయ్య, ఆసనం, ఏ విధమైన భోగాలలోనూ ఎప్పుడూ ఆనందం పొందలేదు; శోకావిష్టుడై అదే విషయాన్ని మాత్రమే నిరంతరం ఆలోచించేవాడు.
