वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse functions as a colophon: it emphasizes the importance of preserving lineage and names as part of historical memory. In the Mahābhārata’s ethical frame, knowing origins and relationships clarifies duties (dharma) and accountability before the later moral crises unfold.
The narrator marks the end of a chapter in the Sambhava Parva that recounts the names of Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s sons. It is a formal closure statement indicating the completion of that thematic unit.
