Āṇīmāṇḍavya–Upākhyāna

The Account of Āṇīmāṇḍavya and the Birth of Vidura

etāvān atra doṣo hi nānyaḥ kaścan pārthiva | etaj jānīhi bhadraṃ te dānādāne parantapa ||

कन्या (the maiden/bride-to-be, implied)

Educational Q&A

The speaker narrows the ethical evaluation to a single relevant defect: when judging whether to give a maiden in marriage, one should focus on the decisive moral issue rather than multiplying suspicions or secondary concerns.

Dāśa addresses a king and clarifies that, in the present marriage proposal/decision, there is only one fault to weigh; he urges the king to understand this clearly before deciding to give or withhold the maiden.
