FAQs

This verse prescribes that in certain situations—such as passing through fire, entering a cave, or hearing of a death in a distant land—purification should be done immediately through a specific act: bathing while clothed (sacela snāna).

It treats death-contact as a source of ritual impurity even when the death occurs far away (deśāntara), and it gives a concise remedial procedure—immediate bathing—reflecting the text’s focus on disciplined śauca alongside broader preta-related duties.

Maintain prompt ritual cleanliness when encountering traditionally impure or inauspicious situations; if following orthodox practice, perform an immediate bath as a reset of śauca before resuming worship or rites.
