Humility, Surrender, and the Power of the Name
हरेर्विरोधं न करोति वायुर्वायोर्विरोधं न करोति विष्णुः / वायोः प्रसादान्ममनास्ति किञ्चिदतानभावश्च तव प्रसादात्
harervirodhaṃ na karoti vāyurvāyorvirodhaṃ na karoti viṣṇuḥ / vāyoḥ prasādānmamanāsti kiñcidatānabhāvaśca tava prasādāt
Garuda (Vinata-putra), addressing Lord Vishnu (Hari)
Concept: Non-opposition among divine powers; grace from Vāyu and the Lord yields completeness (no lack) and unassailable steadiness.
Vedantic Theme: Unity of divine will expressed through different deities; dependence on prasāda over egoic self-reliance.
Application: Strengthen devotional alignment (especially to Hari/Viṣṇu) and cultivate reverence for Vāyu as supportive divine agency; practice gratitude and steadiness in adversity.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: vira
Related Themes: Garuda Purana (general): Viṣṇu as ultimate refuge; divine names as protection
This verse stresses that divine powers work in concord, not rivalry—Vāyu and Hari are mutually non-oppositional, teaching devotees to see unity in divine administration and avoid sectarian conflict.
Garuda attributes completeness and protection not to personal power but to grace—Vāyu’s favor sustains capability, while Hari’s favor grants invincibility and spiritual security.
Cultivate humility and gratitude: recognize support from life-force (vāyu/prāṇa) and the Divine, avoid needless opposition, and align actions with devotion and dharma rather than ego.
