Humility, Surrender, and the Power of the Name
etādṛśasya stavane kvāsti śaktirmama prabho brahmavāyvoḥ sakāśāt / śatairguṇaiḥ sarvadā nyūnatāsti ato hare dayayā māṃ ca pāhi
Garuda (Vinata-putra), addressing Lord Vishnu (Hari)
Concept: True stuti is grounded in humility; recognizing one’s limitation leads to śaraṇāgati and reliance on Hari’s dayā.
Vedantic Theme: Grace (anugraha) complements effort; ego-thinning (ahaṅkāra-kṣaya) is a doorway to devotion and steadiness.
Application: Adopt humility in spiritual practice; offer simple sincere prayers; replace self-judgment with surrender and consistent remembrance.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: karuna
Related Themes: Garuda Purana: stuti passages where devotees confess inadequacy and seek Hari’s protection (general thematic parallel)
This verse models humility as a spiritual qualification: even a mighty being like Garuda admits insufficiency in praising the Lord and seeks protection through Hari’s compassion.
It functions as a devotional interlude where Garuda, the questioner in the dialogue, reaffirms dependence on Vishnu’s grace before continuing the doctrinal narration.
Cultivate sincere devotion without ego—acknowledge limitations, seek divine guidance, and act with steadiness and reverence in daily duties and rituals.
