Kāraṇa-vyākhyā: Cosmic Agents, Rudra-Forms, Sense-Purity, and Ānanda-Tāratamya
नाहं करिष्ये श्रवणं कथाया मद्भाग्यना शश्च भविष्यतीति / नाहं हरिं पूजयिष्ये सदैव पुत्रादिनाशश्च भविष्यतीति
nāhaṃ kariṣye śravaṇaṃ kathāyā madbhāgyanā śaśca bhaviṣyatīti / nāhaṃ hariṃ pūjayiṣye sadaiva putrādināśaśca bhaviṣyatīti
“‘దీని వల్ల నా భాగ్యం నశిస్తుంది’ అని భావించి నేను కథాశ్రవణం చేయను. అలాగే ‘దీని వల్ల కుమారులు మొదలైనవారు నశిస్తారు’ అని భావించి నేను హరిని ఎల్లప్పుడూ పూజించను.”
Lord Vishnu (teaching Garuda)
Concept: Superstitious fear that dharma/bhakti destroys worldly fortune is delusion; refusal of śravaṇa and pūjā blocks purification and true welfare.
Vedantic Theme: Avidyā-driven attachment (putrādi, bhoga) obstructs sādhana; śravaṇa is a gateway to jñāna and bhakti.
Application: Maintain regular listening to sacred narratives and daily worship; treat prosperity as secondary, not the measure of dharma.
Primary Rasa: bibhatsa
Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka
Related Themes: Garuda Purana: repeated praise of Hari-bhakti and kathā-śravaṇa as purifiers, especially in death/afterlife contexts (thematic).
This verse highlights a common obstacle—fear that spiritual listening will harm worldly fortune—implying that such fear-based avoidance blocks dharmic growth and inner protection gained through śravaṇa.
By criticizing the mindset that rejects devotion and sacred hearing for worldly anxieties, the verse points to bhakti and śravaṇa as supportive disciplines for the soul’s well-being, especially in the Preta-kāṇḍa context of post-death consequences.
Do regular listening/reading of Hari-centered teachings and maintain consistent worship without superstition that spirituality causes material loss; replace fear with disciplined devotion and ethical living.
