FAQs

This verse presents tarpaṇa as a direct means of satisfying the Pitṛs through anna (food), toya (water), and gandha (fragrance), emphasizing that such offerings strengthen and benefit the ancestors.

It links the Pitṛs with cosmic locations—Soma’s rays, the Sun’s orb, and a bright vimāna—indicating that tarpaṇa is addressed to ancestors across subtle, celestial stations rather than only a single earthly locale.

Perform śrāddha/tarpaṇa with sincerity—offering water and simple food (and traditional fragrant offerings where appropriate)—as an act of gratitude and dharma toward one’s lineage.
