Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)

Concept: Success/failure of undertakings is read through vāyu-direction and syllabic regularity as nimitta (omens).

Vedantic Theme: Prārabdha and nimitta: outcomes appear through signs, yet discernment (viveka) guides action.

Application: Before initiating a task, observe breath-flow/‘wind’ direction and avoid proceeding when signs indicate irregularity or obstruction.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka

Type: subtle-body (nāḍī/vāta)

Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.67 (nāḍī-vāta/nimitta context; adjacent verses on iḍā–piṅgalā indicators)

FAQs

This verse contrasts two ritual orientations, implying that the practitioner’s “course” influences the arising of inner forces (vāyu) and the smoothness or disturbance of sacred utterance (akṣara), which in turn affects karmic efficacy.

By linking vāyu (vital current) and akṣara (sound/utterance) to karmasiddhi, the verse reflects a broader Garuda Purana theme: subtle forces shaped by conduct and discipline govern outcomes—ritual, ethical, and ultimately post-death consequences.

Maintain disciplined, dharmic practice and careful recitation—clarity of intent, steadiness of breath, and correct pronunciation/supporting discipline are presented as factors that stabilize practice and its results.
