stanau saromāvaśubhau karṇau ca viṣamau tathā / karālā viṣamā dantāḥ kleśāya ca bhavanti te
Lord Vishnu
Concept: Physical irregularities are interpreted as karmic signs that correlate with future kleśa (affliction).
Vedantic Theme: Duḥkha as a feature of saṃsāra; kleśa language resonates with yogic/vedāntic diagnosis though applied here to omenology.
Application: Reframe as a prompt to reduce suffering through ethical living and care; do not equate bodily difference with moral fault.
Primary Rasa: bibhatsa
Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.65 (lists of bodily features and predicted outcomes)
This verse presents certain bodily irregularities as indicators of past karmic results, emphasizing that actions can manifest as lived suffering (kleśa) in embodied life.
By linking embodied conditions to karma, it implies continuity of the soul’s journey across births, where prior deeds shape the next embodiment and its experiences.
Use it as a prompt for self-correction: practice dharma, reduce harmful actions, and cultivate sattvic conduct to lessen future suffering and support spiritual progress.
