Lord Vishnu (in instruction to Garuda/Vinata-putra)

Concept: Artha (means) functions as a causal enabler: when resources arise and grow, actions and projects naturally ‘flow’ into motion.

Vedantic Theme: Prakṛti’s causal chain (nimitta/upādāna conditions) at the empirical level; recognition of dependencies in worldly action.

Application: Plan dharmic undertakings by first stabilizing lawful resources; treat wealth as a channel to purposeful action rather than an end.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Type: natural-landscape

FAQs

This verse states that when resources grow and are obtained from different sources, they become the practical foundation from which all actions—especially dharmic duties, charity, and rites—can proceed.

Śrāddha, piṇḍa-dāna, feeding Brahmins/guests, and other post-death observances require material means; the verse highlights that such kriyās ‘flow’ into practice when artha is available, like rivers from mountains.

Earn and manage resources ethically, and allocate a portion for dharma—charity, service, and necessary family rites—so that right action is supported rather than merely intended.
