Lord Vishnu (in instruction to Garuda/Vinata-putra)

Concept: Internalization of the cosmic element: the wise ‘places’ Earth within the body; by meditating on its dark hue (śyāma-varṇa), the earth-element becomes doubly strengthened (pṛthivī-dviguṇa).

Vedantic Theme: Microcosm–macrocosm correspondence: the elements of the universe are mirrored in the body; mastery begins with contemplative identification and purification.

Application: Perform bhūta-dhāraṇā: visualize a stable, dark, dense earth-principle within; cultivate grounded posture, steady breath, and mental firmness; use the visualization to counter restlessness and instability.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Type: subtle-body locus (internal nyāsa)

FAQs

This verse teaches internalizing the Earth-principle through nyāsa and meditation, indicating that disciplined contemplation stabilizes and strengthens the element within the practitioner.

By “placing” the Earth-element in one’s body and meditating on its proper form (dark hue), the practitioner aligns the gross and subtle constituents, a key step in bhūta-śuddhi (elemental purification).

Use it as a grounding practice: disciplined meditation that cultivates steadiness, patience, and bodily awareness—qualities traditionally associated with a balanced Earth element.
