Lord Vishnu (in dialogue to Garuda)

Vedantic Theme: Indriya-nigraha (sense restraint) as supportive discipline for clarity and wellbeing.
Application: Adopt age-appropriate moderation, especially regarding sexual excess and provocative habits/foods; prioritize restorative routines.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: karuna
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.151 (regimen restrictions; lists of avoidables for specific constitutions/conditions)
This verse frames restraint as a dharmic safeguard: for one advanced in age and prone to indulgence, certain acts and associations should be avoided because they intensify the person’s accumulated faults (saṁcita) and lead to further decline.
By saying such indulgence “aggravates the entire accumulated store,” the verse links uncontrolled desire with reactivating and increasing one’s stored karmic burdens, rather than allowing purification through disciplined living.
Practice moderation and clear boundaries, especially in later life: avoid impulsive, destabilizing relationships and habits, and cultivate self-control (saṁyama) to reduce harm and support ethical, steady living.
