FAQs

This verse explains that the soul is not destroyed with the body; as pot-space becomes the open sky when the pot breaks, the jīva—freed from bodily limitation—attains Brahman, the spiritual reality.

Parīkṣit was preparing for death and seeking the highest truth; Śukadeva uses this analogy to show that death ends only the body’s covering, not the soul’s existence, and points toward liberation through spiritual realization.

Practice detachment from bodily identity—status, anxiety, and fear of death—by remembering you are the soul; live with spiritual focus (hearing, chanting, and self-inquiry) as preparation for a peaceful, God-centered end.
