māghamāse tilā deyāstiladhenuśca dānava indhanādīni ca tathā mādhavaprīṇanāya tu

Translation

மா஘ மாதத்தில் எள்ளை தானமாக அளிக்க வேண்டும்; ஓ தானவா! ‘திலதேனு’ (எள்ளால் செய்யப்பட்ட பசு-தானம்) தானமும் செய்ய வேண்டும். மேலும் எரிபொருள் முதலிய தேவையான பொருட்களும்—இவை மாதவன் (விஷ்ணு) திருப்திக்காகவே.
