Andhakeśvara-liṅga Māhātmya and Śiva’s Subjugation of Andhaka
iti śrīśivamahāpurāṇe caturthyāṃ koṭirudrasaṃhitāyāṃ vaṭukotpattivarṇanaṃ nāma trayodaśo'dhyāyaḥ
Suta Goswami (traditional Purāṇic framing: concluding colophon within Sūta’s narration to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
This is a chapter-colophon that seals the teaching by naming the topic—Vaṭuka’s manifestation—reminding the listener that Shiva’s protective, saguna expressions arise for the welfare of devotees and the restoration of dharma.
By identifying a specific līlā/topic (Vaṭuka’s origin), it points to saguna Shiva’s accessible forms and deeds; such narratives traditionally support linga-worship by strengthening devotion, reverence, and focused remembrance of Shiva’s grace.
As a concluding marker, it suggests chapter-recitation (pāṭha/śravaṇa) with bhakti—ending with mental salutation to Shiva and japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) as a concise meditative takeaway.
