अथाब्रवीदगस्त्यस्तान् राजर्षनृषिसत्तम: । विषादो वो न कर्तव्यो हाहं भोक्ष्ये महासुरम्,तब ऋषिश्रेष्ठ अगस्त्यने उन राजर्षियोंसे (आश्वासन देते हुए) कहा--“तुमलोगोंको चिन्ता नहीं करनी चाहिये। मैं ही इस महादैत्यको खा जाऊँगा।' ऐसा कहकर महर्षि अगस्त्य प्रधान आसनपर जा बैठे और दैत्यराज इल्वलने हँसते हुए-से उन्हें वह मांस परोस दिया
athābravīd agastyas tān rājarṣi-nṛṣisattamaḥ | viṣādo vo na kartavyo hāhaṃ bhokṣye mahāsuram ||
அப்போது அரசரிஷிகளில் தலைசிறந்தவரும் மனிதர்களில் உத்தமருமான அகஸ்திய முனிவர் அவர்களிடம் கூறினார்—“நீங்கள் மனச்சோர்வு கொள்ள வேண்டாம். இந்த மகாதானவனை நானே உண்டு விடுவேன்.” என்று சொல்லி அகஸ்தியர் முதன்மை ஆசனத்தில் அமர்ந்தார்; தானவர்களின் அரசன் இல்வலன் சிரிப்பது போல, வஞ்சக எண்ணத்துடன், அந்த மாமிசத்தை அவருக்கு பரிமாறினான்—ஆனால் அகஸ்தியரின் அஞ்சாத உறுதியின் முன் அவன் சூழ்ச்சி வீணானது।
