जले निमग्नां गां दृष्टवा चोद्धर्तु मनसेच्छति । कि नु रूपमहं कृत्वा सलिलादुद्धरे महीम्,पृथ्वीको जलमें डूबी हुई देख भगवानने मन-ही-मन उसे बाहर निकालनेकी इच्छा की। वे सोचने लगे, “कौन-सा रूप धारण करके मैं इस जलसे पृथ्वीका उद्धार करूँ
jale nimagnāṁ gāṁ dṛṣṭvā coddhartu manasecchati | ki nu rūpam ahaṁ kṛtvā salilād uddhare mahīm |
நீரில் மூழ்கிய பூமியைப் பார்த்த இறைவன், அவளை மீட்டெடுக்க மனத்திலே உறுதி கொண்டான். அவர் சிந்தித்தான்—“எந்த வடிவம் ஏற்று, இந்த வெள்ளநீரிலிருந்து பூமியை நான் உயர்த்துவேன்?”
