Rāma’s Reproach of Sugrīva; Hanūmān’s Report of Seeing Sītā
asmāt parastveṣa mahādhanuṣmān putraḥ kulindādhipate variṣṭhaḥ
The verse highlights how social identity (lineage and rulership) and personal capability (archery prowess) are both used in epic narrative to assess a person’s standing. Ethically, it suggests that excellence is recognized through both inherited responsibility and demonstrated skill.
Koṭika points out that just beyond their current position there is a formidable archer—identified as the outstanding son of the Kulinda ruler—thereby preparing the listener for an encounter or emphasizing the significance of this figure in the scene.
