नन्दयन् सुहृदः सर्वान् शात्रवां क्षावभर्त्सयन् । कण्ठे चैनं परिष्वज्य गम्यतामित्युवाच ह
nandayan suhṛdaḥ sarvān śātravāṁś cāvabhartsayan | kaṇṭhe cainaṁ pariṣvajya gamyatām ity uvāca ha ||
அனைத்து நல்வாழ்த்துநரையும் மகிழ்வித்து, பகைவரை கண்டித்து, அவனை கழுத்தைச் சுற்றி அணைத்து—“இப்போது புறப்படு” என்று கூறினான்.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores ethical social clarity: one should openly honor and encourage well-wishers, while firmly censuring hostile wrongdoing; yet even amid conflict, decisive action can be accompanied by humane gestures such as an embrace, marking closure without abandoning moral discernment.
A figure publicly acknowledges two audiences—friends and foes—by pleasing the former and rebuking the latter, then embraces a person around the neck and instructs him to depart, indicating a formal leave-taking or dismissal sealed by a personal gesture.
