Duryodhana’s Reassurance and Force-Praise to Dhritarashtra
na hantā vidyate cāpi rājan bhīṣmasya kaścana
The line highlights how confidence in strength and reputation can become a moral blind spot: Duryodhana treats Bhīṣma’s perceived invincibility as decisive, overlooking that outcomes in the Mahābhārata are also governed by dharma, vows, and complex ethical causality.
In Udyoga Parva, as war preparations and counsel intensify, Duryodhana speaks to a kingly addressee and asserts that no one can kill Bhīṣma, using Bhīṣma’s stature to bolster the Kauravas’ morale and strategic confidence.
