न निवर्तितपूर्वश्च कदाचिद् रणमूर्थनि । निवर्त्यतामापगेय: काम॑ युद्धात् पितामहा:
Transliteration
na nivartitapūrvaś ca kadācid raṇamūrdhani | nivartyatām āpageyaḥ kāmaṃ yuddhāt pitāmahaḥ ||
Translation
பீஷ்மர் கூறினார்—போரின் முன்னணியில் இருந்து அவர் ஒருபோதும் முன்பு பின்வாங்கியதில்லை. ஆகவே பிதாமகர் (பீஷ்மர்) தம் விருப்பப்படி போரிலிருந்து விலகட்டும்.
