Educational Q&A

The verse frames action as a matter of inherited duty and reputation: one should uphold the noble standards of one’s lineage. Ethically, it highlights how appeals to ancestral example can motivate courage and perseverance, but also how such pride-driven resolve can intensify commitment to war.

Sañjaya reports a warrior’s inner resolve: he declares that he must emulate the great deeds of his forefathers and therefore intends to display unmatched valor in the coming battle.
