Udyoga Parva, Adhyāya 101: Bhogavatī-varṇana, Nāga-vaṃśa-kathana, and Sumukha-vivāha-prastāva
सर्वकामदुघा नाम धेनुर्धारयते दिशम् । उत्तरां मातले धर्म्या तथैलविलसंज्ञिताम्,चौथी धेनुका नाम सर्वकामदुघा है। मातले! वह धर्मयुक्त कुबेरसम्बन्धिनी उत्तरदिशाका धारण-पोषण करती है
sarvakāmadughā nāma dhenur dhārayate diśam | uttarāṃ mātale dharmyāṃ tathailavilasaṃjñitām ||
நாரதர் கூறினார்—ஓ மாதலி! ‘சர்வகாமதுகா’ எனும் பெயருடைய பசு வடதிசையைத் தாங்குகிறது. அது தர்மமயமானது; ‘ஐலவில’ என்றும் அழைக்கப்படுகிறது; குபேரனுடன் தொடர்புடையது.
नारद उवाच
The verse links cosmic order with dharma: even the directions are portrayed as sustained by sacred forces, and the northern quarter is characterized as ‘dharmic’ and associated with Kubera’s realm—suggesting that prosperity and protection are grounded in righteous order.
Nārada addresses Mātali and describes a cosmological arrangement: a wish-fulfilling cow named Sarvakāmadughā is said to uphold the northern direction, which is also called Ailavila due to its connection with Kubera.
