राज्ञो वृत्त-गुण-संग्रहः (Conduct and the Thirty-Six Virtues of a King) / The King’s Code of Conduct
प्रियं ब्रयादकृपण: शूर: स्यादविकत्थन: । दाता नापात्रवर्षी स्यात् प्रगल्भ: स्यादनिष्ठर:
priyaṃ brūyād akṛpaṇaḥ śūraḥ syād avikatthanaḥ | dātā nāpātravārṣī syāt pragalbhaḥ syād aniṣṭhuraḥ ||
இனிய, விருப்பமான சொற்களைப் பேச வேண்டும்; கஞ்சத்தனம் இல்லாதவனாக இருக்க வேண்டும். வீரனாக இருக்க வேண்டும்; ஆனால் பெருமை பேசக் கூடாது. தானம் செய்ய வேண்டும்; ஆனால் தகுதியில்லாதவர்மேல் தானத்தைப் பொழியக் கூடாது. செயலில் துணிவும் திறனும் உடையவனாக இருக்க வேண்டும்; ஆயினும் கடுமையோ கொடுமையோ உடையவனாக ஆகக் கூடாது.
