वैशम्पायन उवाच
This verse is a colophon rather than a doctrinal statement; it frames the surrounding material as instruction on rājadharma—how a king should rule ethically—linked to Yudhiṣṭhira’s coronation, emphasizing that legitimate sovereignty is grounded in dharma and disciplined governance.
The narrator’s colophon marks the close of the fortieth chapter in the Śānti Parva, within the rājadharma instruction section, situating the discourse in the setting of Yudhiṣṭhira’s consecration and signaling a transition to the next chapter.
