वैशम्पायन उवाच
Victory and survival in war are not the final goal; they impose an urgent obligation to complete the remaining duties—restoring order, performing necessary rites, and acting responsibly in the aftermath in accordance with dharma.
The narrator Vaiśampāyana addresses a Bhārata (a Kuru/Pāṇḍava figure), noting that they have escaped a hero-destroying battle after defeating enemies, and urges them to quickly carry out the subsequent tasks that still remain.
