Educational Q&A

When powerful beings multiply without restraint and act contrary to dharma, the world itself becomes ‘burdened’—a moral image showing that disorder and violence have collective consequences that press upon society and nature.

Vaiśaṃpāyana describes the Earth (Vasumatī) as overcrowded with various formidable classes of beings—Daityas, Dānavas, Gandharvas, and Rākṣasas—so that she is oppressed by their weight, setting the stage for the need to restore balance.
