Āścarya-kathana: Brāhmaṇa–Nāga Dialogue on Sūrya (Vivasvat) and the ‘Second Sun’ Phenomenon
evaṁ sa bhagavān vyāso gurur mama viśāmpate | kathayāmāsa dharmajño dharmarājñe dvijottamaḥ ||
The verse emphasizes the authoritative transmission of dharma: Vyāsa, portrayed as a supremely qualified teacher and knower of righteousness, instructs Dharmarāja (Yudhiṣṭhira), underscoring that ethical governance and personal conduct should be grounded in learned, tradition-bearing counsel.
Vaiśampāyana continues the frame-narration by stating that Vyāsa—his own guru—recounted and explained dharma-related matters to Yudhiṣṭhira, setting up or continuing a didactic discourse within the Śānti Parva.
