केनैष धर्म: कथितो देवेन ऋषिणापि वा
Janamejaya uvāca | kenaiṣa dharmaḥ kathito devena ṛṣiṇāpi vā, bhagavan? asya bhaktirūpasya dharmasya kaḥ devatā vā ṛṣiḥ vā upadeṣṭā? ananya-bhaktānāṃ jīvanacaryā kā? sa ca kadā prācīnaḥ pravṛttaḥ? mama saṃśayaṃ nivāraya; etad-viṣayaṃ śrotuṃ mama manasi mahān autkaṇṭhyaḥ ||
ஜனமேஜயன் கூறினான்— “பகவனே! இந்த தர்மத்தை யார் உரைத்தார்—தேவரா, முனிவரா? பக்தியே வடிவான இந்த தர்மத்தை முதலில் உபதேசித்தவர் யார்? அநன்ய பக்தியுடையோரின் வாழ்வொழுக்கம் எத்தகையது? இந்த மரபு எந்நாளிலிருந்து நடைமுறையில் உள்ளது? என் ஐயத்தை நீக்குங்கள்; இவ்விஷயத்தை கேட்க என் மனம் மிகுந்த ஆவலால் நிறைந்துள்ளது।”
