युक्तोडपि नित्यधर्मश्न न वै स्वर्गमवाप्स्यसि । उस बातको समझकर मामा नारदजी भी कुपित हो उठे और उन्होंने अपने भानजे पर्वतको शाप देते हुए कहा--“अरे! तू तपस्या, ब्रह्मचर्य, सत्य और इन्द्रिय-संयमसे युक्त एवं नित्य धर्मपरायण होनेपर भी स्वर्गलोकमें नहीं जा सकेगा"

“நீ ஒழுக்கமுடையவனாகவும் நித்திய தர்மத்தை அறிந்தவனாகவும் இருந்தாலும், சொர்க்கத்தை அடையமாட்டாய்.” இதை உணர்ந்த மாமனார் நாரதர் கோபமுற்று, தன் சகோதரியின் மகன் பர்வதனைச் சபித்து கூறினார்— “ஏ! நீ தவம், பிரம்மச்சரியம், சத்தியம், இந்திரியக் கட்டுப்பாடு ஆகியவற்றுடன் நித்திய தர்மபராயணனாக இருந்தாலும், சொர்க்கலோகத்தை அடைய முடியாது.”
