Śānti-parva Adhyāya 30: Nārada–Parvata Samaya-bhaṅga, Śāpa, and the Marriage of Sukumārī
तस्यास्तेनोपचारेण रूपेणाप्रतिमेन च
tasyāstenopacāreṇa rūpeṇāpratimena ca
அவளுடைய பக்தியுடனான உபசாரத்தாலும், ஒப்பற்ற அழகினாலும், அவள் அவனுடைய அன்பை ஈர்த்தாள்.
श्रीकृष्ण उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical power of upacāra—respectful, attentive conduct—suggesting that character expressed through service and propriety can be as influential as outward excellence, and that both shape moral and social outcomes.
The speaker notes that a woman (implied by the feminine reference) affects a man’s disposition toward her through two factors: her considerate service/behavior (upacāra) and her incomparable beauty (apratima rūpa).
