Adhyāya 284: Tapas as a Corrective to Household Attachment
Parāśara’s Instruction
manasā cintitaṃ yac ca yac ca vācānukīrtitam | sarvaṃ sampadyate tasya stavasya asyānukīrtanāt ||
Repeated recitation of a sacred hymn is presented as a means by which a person’s mental intentions and spoken wishes are brought to fulfillment—highlighting the Mahabharata’s emphasis on disciplined devotion and the alignment of inner resolve with righteous speech.
In the Shanti Parva’s instruction-setting, Bhishma is describing the fruit (phala) of reciting a particular stotra: he assures the listener that whatever is desired in thought or requested in words becomes attainable through its continual chanting.
