Adhyāya 283: Varṇa-vṛtti, Nyāya-ārjana, and the Decline-and-Restoration of Dharma (वर्णवृत्तिः न्यायार्जनं च)
ऊचुः प्राउज्जलय: सर्वे कथ्यतां को भवानिति | तब ब्रह्मा आदि देवता तथा प्रजापति दक्ष--ये सब के-सब हाथ जोड़कर बोले --देवदेव! कहिये, आप कौन हैं?” || ५० है ।।
Vīrabhadra uvāca: Nāhaṃ rudro na vā devī naiva bhoktum ihāgataḥ.
அப்போது பிரம்மா முதலான தேவர்கள், பிரஜாபதி தக்ஷன் ஆகியோர் அனைவரும் கைகூப்பி, “தேவதேவா! நீங்கள் யார்? சொல்லுங்கள்” என்றனர். வீரபத்ரன் கூறினான்: “நான் ருத்ரனும் அல்ல, தேவியும் அல்ல; இங்கே போகங்களையோ ஹவியையோ பெறுவதற்காகவும் நான் வரவில்லை.”
