चारित्रमात्मन: पश्यंश्रन्द्रशुद्धमनामयम् । धर्मात्मा लभते कीर्ति प्रेत्य चेह यथासुखम्
cāritram ātmanaḥ paśyañ chandraśuddham anāmayam | dharmātmā labhate kīrtiṁ pretya ceha yathāsukham ||
தன் நடத்தையை நிலவுபோல் தூய்மையானது, ஒளிமிக்கது, குறையற்றது என்று நோக்கி அறியும் தர்மவான், இவ்வுலகிலும் மறுவுலகிலும் புகழையும் தக்க இனிய நலனையும் அடைகிறான்.
भीष्म उवाच
Moral self-examination and purity of conduct—likened to the moon’s spotless brightness—lead to enduring benefits: good reputation and genuine happiness, both in this life and beyond.
