शल्यपर्वणि प्रथमाध्यायः — Karṇa-vadha-anantaraṃ Śalya-niyogaḥ, Saṃjayasya Dhṛtarāṣṭra-nivedanam
नातिद्ृष्टमना: सूतो वाक्यसंदिग्धया गिरा | संजयो<हं नरव्यात्र नमस्ते भरतर्षभ
nātīdṛṣṭamanāḥ sūto vākyasaṃdigdhyayā girā | saṃjayo 'haṃ naravyāghra namaste bharatarṣabha janamejaya ||
வைசம்பாயனர் கூறினார்—தேரோட்டி சஞ்சயன் மனம் மிகுந்த தளர்ச்சியுற்று, கண்ணீரோடு, தயக்கத்தால் தடுக்கித் தடுக்கி பேசும் சொற்களால் கூறினான்—“மனிதர்களில் புலியே! பரதர்களில் காளையே! (ஜனமேஜயனே) நான் சஞ்சயன். உமக்கு வணக்கம்।”
