Duryodhana’s Final Condition, Lamentation, and the Night’s Report
सभृत्यानां नरव्याप्र रत्नवन्ति गृहाणि च । “नरश्रेष्ठू आपके ही बल-पराक्रमसे सेवकोंसहित कृपाचार्यको, मुझको तथा मेरे पिताजीको रत्नोंसे भरे हुए भव्य भवन प्राप्त हुए थे
sabhṛtyānāṁ naravyāghra ratnavanti gṛhāṇi ca |
சஞ்சயன் கூறினான்—மனிதர்களில் சிறந்தவனே! உமது வலமும் வீரப் பராக்கிரமமும் காரணமாகவே, பணியாளர்களுடன் கூடிய கிருபாசாரியருக்கும், எனக்கும், என் தந்தைக்கும், ரத்தினங்கள் நிறைந்த மாளிகைகள் கிடைத்தன.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the linkage between a ruler’s valor and the material well-being of dependents and allies, while implicitly raising an ethical reflection: prosperity secured by force carries responsibility and can be morally fraught in a war-torn context.
Sañjaya addresses a great warrior/king, crediting him with having provided (through his power) treasure-filled residences and attendant-supported security for Kṛpa, for Sañjaya himself, and for Sañjaya’s father—framing past benefits received under that leader’s protection.
