सो<ब्रवीज्जातसंरम्भस्तथा लोकगुरुर्गुरुम् । प्रजा: सृष्टा: परेणेमा: कि करिष्याम्यनेन वै,यह प्रश्न सुनकर कुपित हुए जगदगुरु शिवने ब्रह्माजीसे कहा--'प्रजाकी सृष्टि तो दूसरेने कर डाली; फिर इस लिंगको रखकर मैं क्या करूँगा
so 'bravīj jāta-saṁrambhas tathā loka-gurur gurum | prajāḥ sṛṣṭāḥ pareṇemāḥ ki kariṣyāmy anena vai ||
இதைக் கேட்ட உலககுரு சிவன் சினம் கொண்டு, குருவான பிரம்மாவிடம் கூறினான்—“இந்தப் பிரஜைகள் மற்றொருவரால் ஏற்கெனவே படைக்கப்பட்டன; அப்படியிருக்க இந்த லிங்கத்தை வைத்துக் கொண்டு நான் என்ன செய்வேன்?”
